According to the characteristics of sports science research and in the light of the current development of our times, the paper discussed the important role of methodology in sports science research. While reviewing the significant progress made in China in research methods of sports science, the paper also pointed out some deficiencies in methodology and in the applicstion of specific methods. The paper expolinded that the development of sports in our country had made high demands of our times on scientific research method. It also encouraged sports scientists to make every effort to improve methodology so as to establish and develop our own sports science school in China.
