过去,只是在一些书籍、资料中读过有关现代粤剧《山乡风云》的介绍,知道这是在1965年由表演艺术家红线女、罗品超、罗家宝、文觉非、郑培英等联袂主演的颇受观众欢迎的一出好戏。在大演现代戏的年代里甚至有“北有《红灯记》,南有《山乡风云》”的美誉。该剧被评论家称为是粤剧现代戏创作中具有“里程碑”意义的作品。由此可见,《山乡风云》在新中国戏剧史上已占据很重要的位置。
