汞进入土壤后,在土壤中累积,会改变土壤的性状,因而土壤中生长的植物也发生数量和质量的改变。当这些含汞的植物被人体间接或直接摄入后,又会在人体中积累而引起中毒。特别是有机汞,一旦在人体内积累,很不容易降解。1950—1960年间在日本水俣镇发现的举世闻名的“水俣病”就是甲基汞中毒的典型病例。因而汞的污染对农作物的生长以及对人体的健康具有很大的危害。这样对土壤中的汞含量进行分析测定,显得十分必要。
