该书是第二届全国统计科普征文活动的应征作品选集。统计科普征文活动是由中国统计学会主办,《调研世界涕辑部承办的,其宗旨是为了提高统计能力,提高统计数据质量,提高政府统计公信力,倡导统计科学精神,增加公众的统计科学意识,传播统计科学的基本常识,解读统计工作的基本原则与方法。第二届统计科普征文活动共收到260余篇应征作品,在此基础上,编者遴选了28篇作品编辑、出版了该书。
