The current energy situation has brought a renewed focus on the question that has existed for many years. What is the cost of discovering new oil and gas fields in the oil industry? Unfortunately, there is no accurate answer to this question so far. This is because of the current difficulties in calculating reserves of newly discovered oilfields: exploration costs and the timing of the use of these funds. However, within a certain allowable range, the general trend of discovering oil and gas costs can be found. Key Factors Reviewing some of the key elements of US oil and gas exploration can increase understanding of the trends in oil discovery costs per barrel. Figure 1 shows the number of exploratory wells in the new field and the number of seismic teams, two key factors. The end of World War II, the demand for oil is very large, the U.S. crude oil production is at full capacity.
