国内第一次在交通重点建设项目中进行设计招标,并第一次实行联合设计江阴大桥是中国建造的第一座主跨在1000米以上的悬索桥,技术难度之高在国内首屈一指,有的还达到世界水平,设计的难度也特别大,国内还没有一家单位独自承担过设计千米心上跨径县索桥的任务,为了选择一流的设计队伍,确保设计质量,我们考虑改变过去那种指定某一家单位的习惯做法,于1992年在国内第一次实行工程设计招标,通过公开、公平、公正的招标,选择了由交通部公路规划设计院为主体,联合江苏省交通规划设计院、同济大学建筑设计院组成江阴长江公路大桥联合设计处,进驻江阴工地现场,进行现场设计。
