武术的本质属性是攻防技击性,在冷兵器时代,武术的军事功能是其最重要的社会功能,为历代统治者所重视。所以,战争是促进武术发展的主要因素。然而自鸦片战争后西方现代火器的输入及其后的广泛应用,改变了战争的进行方式,武术的军事价值功能随之大大弱化并逐渐退出军事领域;同时,武术适应了人们健身、健心、娱乐和文化传承的需要,在西方体育文化的影响下,发展为一项民族传统体育项目。
The essential attribute of Wushu is offensive and defensive tactics.
