唐朝数学兴盛,数学名家辈出,著述如林,内容博大精深。在今湖北当阳市境内的阳山玉泉寺寺院中,一位著名高僧正在上课。这位高僧就是悟真大师,他除了佛经、梵文以外,对算学也非常精通,经常向弟子讲授数学。这天,悟真大师问他的弟子一个数学问题:“直田周长百二十,长减十尺不差里,阔边增加六尺正,直田一下变方阵,试问直田积有几,谁能快速算分明?”此题一出,弟子们思索许久不得其解。
