Qian Jibo is the father of scholar Qian Zhongshu and a famous literary and historical expert during the Republic of China. In 1923, Mr. Qian was appointed as a professor at Tsinghua University. At that time, Tsinghua University had a very strong Western-style life, and colleagues were especially serious about money worship. Many people complained that their salaries were too low. Mr. Qian listened and felt very uncomfortable. On one occasion, the school held a teacher’s conference. One of the colleagues also complained about the salary at the meeting.
