The Niya site is located in the desert of about 90 km north of Minfeng County in the southern Xinjiang region of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region today. After comparison with the historical records, the site should be the quintessence of the Western Han Dynasty City site, the Eastern Han Dynasty when the city became a part of Shanshan country, “Han Dynasty Western Regions Biography” contains its “family 480, port 3360, victory soldiers 500 ”. In the first half of the 7th century, Xuan Zang also recorded the city in “The Records of the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty.” In the archaeological excavations of the ruins discovered the earliest cotton fabric in China so far and a considerable number of gorgeous, beautifully woven silk fabrics.
