时间年代或者历史事件往往被当作文学的主要分期,然而作为移民文学,若也仅仅将时间年代或者历史事件来作为划分的主要手段,似乎有些单调也似乎忽略了另外一个视角因素——移民文学的主题。从跨文化交际的适应性理论视角来看,华人移民文学主要反映了华人对于海外生活的新奇感,文化冲突,文化休克到逐渐被接纳,寻找身份认同的过程,恰好体现了跨文化交际适应过程的四个阶段:蜜月期、文化冲击期、复原期与跨文化适应期。
