《风骨》篇云,“结言端直,则文骨成焉”,将文章语言的“端直”与“文骨”直接联系起来.然学界对于“端直”的解说一直颇有分歧,一个重要的原因在于,“端直”一词本身就具有多义性.联系词义及具体语境分析,笔者认为,“端直”当指文章语言直陈其义、精要准确、不枝不芜,与文章思想内容并无关系.齐梁之际文风侈靡浮滥,文章重形式而轻内容.刘勰提倡“结言端直”,是从形式上对其时寻虚逐微、连篇累牍文风的有力拨正.
