Rear Bay is located in the north of the Philippine island of Victoria West Harbor. Freshwater swamps and mangroves, once covered by West Harbor, have now almost all dried up and become extinct. Nevertheless, the existing wetlands in West Harbor, including Rear Bay, remain important settlements for migratory seabirds and wading birds and have been included in the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Westport now has more than half the mangroves it holds in the Victoria Sea, and it has a rich and varied ecological environment, including salt marshes, mangroves, seagrass meadows, sloughs, rocky bells, coral reefs and straits. These habitats are rich and fertile, habitat with a wide variety of marine life and birds.
