上世纪80年代初,年轻的他凭借《西藏组画》一炮走红,奠定了他在中国当代美术史上里程碑式的地位与声望。随后,他飘洋过海,闯荡美国数十年,成为中国第一个在美国举办个展的自由职业画家。他还常于业余写作,《纽约琐记》、《多余的素材》、《退步集》将他在文字上的智慧一点一滴展现给世人。这些文字承载着厚重的责任感,显示了他作为评论家的价值和作家的功力,折射出他多元的艺术修养。也许有一天我们熟悉的将是著名文人陈丹青而非著名画家陈丹青。
In the early 1980s, young, he became a hit with “Tibetan Group Painting” and laid him a milestone position and prestige in the history of contemporary Chinese art. He then traveled across the seas, battling the United States for decades, becoming China’s first freelance painter to hold a solo exhibition in the United States. He is also often amateur writing, “New York Suo Ke”, “excess material”, “set back” his wisdom in words to show the world bit by bit. These words bear a heavy sense of responsibility, showing his value as a critic and writer’s skill, reflecting his diverse artistic accomplishments. Perhaps one day we will be familiar with the famous literati Chen Danqing rather than the famous painter Chen Danqing.
