重大隧道火灾会造成大量的人员伤亡与财产损失。火灾在封闭空间下呈现出的特性给消防工程师、健康安全专家与急救人员带来了极大的挑战。2014年3月,在中国晋济高速路上的岩后隧道里发生火灾和爆炸,超过30人丧命,几十辆汽车被大火吞没。事故原因为一辆当地运煤的卡车追尾一辆载有4罐易燃甲醇燃料的货车。两车碰撞引起火灾与爆炸,烧毁40多辆车。虽然不清楚这次隧道火灾造成的经济损失是多少,但稍后可以从下文的欧洲隧道火灾
A major tunnel fire can cause a large number of casualties and property damage. The characteristics of a fire in a confined space present great challenges to fire engineers, health and safety experts, and emergency responders. In March 2014, more than 30 people were killed and dozens of cars were engulfed by the fire in a fire and explosion inside the Yanhou Tunnel on the Jinji Expressway in China. The cause of the accident was a rear-end truck carrying 4 cans of flammable methanol fuel on a local coal-handling truck.
