1935年春节前后,当中国工农红军在长征途中路过历史名城遵义时,当地团溪、西坪一带民间花灯艺人蔡炳章、蔡恒昌等几弟兄编了一首歌颂红军的新闻灯,在黄家湾、塘坝、上庄坝等地演唱。这首灯词朴素而率直地表达了当时贵州劳动人民热爱红军的心意和他们对于中国共产党领导的革命事业所寄予的殷切期望,并采用了贵州人民喜闻乐见的花灯形式演唱,所以受到了群众热烈的欢迎。红军走后,国民党反动派及其爪牙借口“维持治安”,禁止演唱“红军灯”。有一年春节,“蔡家花灯”
