In this book, the author establishes the entire adsorption theory on a basic equation, where σ is the number of adsorbed molecules per unit surface, τ, the mean residence time of the molecule, ν is the molecular mass per unit area of collisions per unit time number. Following Langmuir’s assumptions: (1) Each molecule impinging on an exposed surface has equal heat of adsorption; (2) Molecules that have hit an already adsorbed molecule will immediately return to the gas phase. Σ_0 indicates the number of adsorbed molecules per unit area when completely covered with a monomolecular layer, and σ indicates the number of adsorbed molecules, then the number of vacancies that can be adsorbed is σ-σ_0.
