位于马德里以南约70公里的西班牙小城托雷多(Toledo),曾被列入世界十大遗址之一。今天,这个坐落在泰加尔斯(Rio Tajo)河岸山丘上的中世纪城堡似已不那么起眼,然而几个世纪前,在西班牙历史上,他却象征着一个无比荣耀的名字。16世纪初,古城托雷多就以因其强盛而一直雄踞为王国的都城。1556年,菲利浦二世继承帝位,其时的西班牙霸业如日中天,作为首都,小城未免显得有点寒碜,容不下帝国雍容的架势。5年后,距离托雷多70公里之遥的马德里被选作为帝国首都。至此,托雷多就像个英雄迟暮的君主,踯躅在中世纪遗留的城堡中,独自缅怀着昔日的宫幕帏影和掩盖在厚重历史下,那充满荣耀的一幕又一幕……
