Cultivating stable disease resistance is a very important part of plant breeding. Multi-gene control is generally considered stable disease resistance, and quality trait gene control of non-stable disease resistance. However, as emphasized by Robison, there are also exceptions to the stability of a single gene to disease over a period of time. Nelson reviewed some concepts of plant disease resistance. For more than two decades, some upland cotton lines have been shown to be stable against angular leaf spot disease. During this period, various immunological lines were identified throughout the cotton belt in the United States, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Sudan, India and Pakistan.
