Recently, the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia presented a guiding report on health measures in South-East Asia. Almost 1.3 billion people live in Southeast Asia, accounting for about a quarter of the world’s population, and health services in each country face similar pressures. With 30% of the population living in towns and cities, the region is projected to have more than 10 million people in five cities by the year 2000, and many urban residents live in temporary shelters where it is extremely difficult to provide potable water and efficient sewage treatment nets.
