The authors observed that the petroleum ether extract of aerial parts of Hypericum calycinum L. showed significant inhibition of the growth of Co-115 human colon cancer cell line. The original lipophilic extract was separated into three active fractions by DCCC, petroleum ether-94% ethanol-ethyl acetate-water (83:67:33:17, ascending method). The main active moiety was crystallized from hexane and subjected to RP-18 semi-preparative HPLC, methanol-water (85:15) + 0.1% acetic acid to give compounds (1) and (2).
