On October 1 this year, we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Since the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up, the machinery industry in the Republic has made tremendous progress. At present, China is going to a brighter future as demanded by the pillar industries of national economy. The old Chinese machinery industry foundation is very weak. In 1845, the British set up a ship repair factory in Guangzhou. In 1864, the Qing government opened the Jiangnan Machine Building Bureau in Shanghai. China was one of the countries in the world that established the modern machinery industry earlier. However, up to a century ago 1949, even though there was only a coastal area along the coast and a few cities along the Yangtze River, there were some machinery factories that mainly repaired and produced some simple mechanical products and did not develop into a single
