树桩盆景的大小,目前都是以树桩的高度来确定的。人们习惯把树高20厘米以下的桩景称为微型盆景,20～40厘米高的称为小型,40～60厘米高的称为中型,60～80厘米高的称为大型,80厘米以上的则称为巨型盆景。至于与树桩相配套的盆子大小都没有明确规定。现有评定树桩盆景大小的“标准”只片面强调了树桩高度,而把盆子的作用忽略了。随着我国盆景事业的发展,特别是水旱盆景、丛林式盆景的发展,这样评定“标准”已不能准
