A prospective study of low birth weight infants suggests that impaired white matter may increase the risk of childhood psychosis. Of the 564 low birth weight infants, 20% had cranial abnormalities found in the B-selection within the first week of life and were treated in three neonatal care units in three U.S. hospitals.
