The Swertia chirayita Swampi grows abundantly in the Himalayas from 1,200 to 3,050 m. Because of its bitterness, its infusions are widely used as digestive aids, insect repellents and bitter tonics, often replacing the legal dragon. Bile grass preparations used as antipyretic agents. In the study of the hypoglycemic effect of bitter plants, the authors observed that the 95% ethanol extract of S. chirayita has a hypoglycemic effect on rats. The ethanol extract of the crude drug was further separated and its hexane moiety was found to have hypoglycemic effects in several mouse models, with a maximum blood glucose reduction of 27%. In the Al-bino rat test, its hypoglycemic effect was dose-dependent, 250mg/kg hexane extract was the optimal dose. Therefore, it is worthwhile to isolate and identify the above-mentioned dose-dependent hypoglycemic active ingredients using a large number of rat test models.
