Objective: To investigate the clinical value of prenatal biochemical screening test on thalassemia. Methods: A total of 2,200 pregnant women who received prenatal screening and delivery during the past two years in our hospital were selected as the study subjects. Follow-up investigation and partial serological analysis were performed. RESULTS: Totally 22 pregnant women with thalassemia were detected in 2200 pregnant women in this study, accounting for 1%. The results showed that the levels of PAPP-A and AFP in pregnant women with thalassemia were significantly decreased, while the levels of Freeβ-HCG were significantly increased. The MCV, MCH and RDW in anemic pregnant women were significantly higher than those in normal pregnant women (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The prenatal biochemical screening test plays an important role in finding thalassemia, strengthening intervention and increasing the rate of eugenics. It should be popularized and applied in a wider area.
