Distributed computer control system is the emergence of a new type of process control technology and equipment in recent years. This article analyzes Foxboro’s Spectrum system design philosophy, system architecture, the technology used, and data communications and other issues. Starting from the seventies, all major industrialized countries such as the United States, Japan, Britain, France, West Germany and other countries have developed a multi-microprocessor as the core called distributed control system. Such as the newly developed “Spectrum” system by Foxboro, the TDC-20O0 system by Honeywell, the P-4000 system by Centum in Yokogawa, Japan, and the Teleperm-M system newly developed by West Germany Siemens . They not only draw on the strengths of conventional analog instruments and centralized computer control systems, but also overcome the shortcomings of both to become the world’s advanced automation technology for process control equipment.
