随着经济的发展,社会已处于信息化时代,人类精神水平不断提高,人类的知识体系纷繁复杂但呈现出大分化、大融合的状态,传统学科的鸿沟分界逐渐被打破了,不再独立存在,而是出现了令人眼花缭乱的分支学科及边缘学科。之所以边缘学科有其存在价值,究其根本原因是它从传统学科的融合之中产生了新的东西。正如平面设计是在多种学科结合作用下发展起来的,只有基于对设计艺术是边缘学科的认识,才有可能在实际教学中避免设计课程因感性的艺术成分掩盖工学的理性探求,只讲版面的视觉效果而忽略视觉元素的安排过程。
