A wide range of technologies are available to modernize the rolling mill. The purpose of modernization may be one or more of the following: a) increasing productivity; b) reducing production costs; c) improving quality; d) diversification; and e) competitive factors. The most suitable process choice depends on the surroundings of a given mill and there is no universal rule to look for. This article describes how to find the most appropriate process technology from the various options available for wire rod and bar mills. It is important to note that modernization does not always have the effect of being productive, sometimes being forced by it. This article also emphasizes the fact that people are not overwhelmed by the claims of the latest and most modern technology. In this case, careful and in-depth analysis is needed to ensure that the most suitable process is selected and the desired result is obtained where the process provider will play an important role.
