Since the introduction of China’s reform and opening up policy, Australian enterprises have started to engage in direct investment activities in China and hold joint ventures, joint ventures and wholly-owned enterprises. In order to ensure the rights and interests of investors and the smooth progress of Australian investment in China, the two governments signed the investment protection agreement and the double taxation avoidance agreement in July and November 1988 respectively, which provides for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
