At the invitation of the Australian authorities, not long ago I visited the news media in Australia. Among them are three news agencies: the Australian Newspaper Council, the Australian Department of Transport and Communications, the Australian Broadcasting Ruling Committee; five newspapers, four television stations and one radio station. Although the schedule of intense visits is a cursory one, it is also clear that the news media in Australia is also undergoing a drastic blow in the global trend of change. Ownership of the media is changing dramatically Australia is a country with a well-developed media coverage. Of the total population of less than 20 million, as of 1987 there were 237 television stations of all kinds, 256 relay stations, 349 radio stations and 76 relay stations; two on the national television network (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Special Broadcasting Service) and commercial television networks (channel 7, channel 10). TV ratings of 95% or more, the radio’s listening rate of 99%. The national circulation of 19 national newspapers reached 354,000 copies, 36 regional newspapers, and 600,000 copies were distributed, with an average of one daily newspaper for every five persons.
