自贡盐场知名的企业家颜心畲与其弟颜宪阳共同经营的相当数量的井灶,分布地域广,各自为政。为了统一领导经营,发挥总体的经济优势,便设置了永记业务处,由颜心畲任总经理、颜宪阳任副总经理。 在大致相同的时期内,与永记业务处这种统辖多井灶的上层管理机构形式,在自贡盐场多有建立,或名处或称号,称呼不同,其职能相似。由此可见,设置业务处,是自贡地区盐业生产发展的需要。
