随着铁路运输的日益发展,提高钢轨的耐磨性、延长其使用寿命、增大货运量已成为当前铁路运输的主要课题。尤其是我国山区多,小半径弯道多、坡度大,在这些地段的一般钢轨,由于曲线外股的侧面磨耗,曲线下股的压溃,一般使用2年左右就得更换,线路维护任务非常繁重,提高这些地段钢轨的使用寿命更具有现实意义。提高钢轨使用寿命有合金化和钢轨热处理等多种方法。而热处理方法是提高钢轨耐磨性、延长其使用寿命的最简单、最经济、最有效的方法之一。
