Objective To observe the changes and clinical value of brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) in infants with congenital human cytomegalovirus infection. Methods A total of 296 newborns and infants who were diagnosed as human cytomegalo-virus (HCMV) infection from May 2007 to May 2010 in our hospital were collected for BAEP analysis and BAEP results were analyzed. Results The abnormal rate of BAEP in infants with congenital HCMV infection was 25.3%, which was mostly peripheral hearing loss. The abnormal rate of BAEP in neonates with HCMV infection was higher than that in other groups. There was significant difference in the gender, living environment and age No statistical significance (χ2 = 0.831,0.313,3.976, P> 0.05). Conclusions HCMV infection in neonates is more likely to lead to hearing impairment. Therefore, early detection of BAEP in infants with congenital HCMV can early evaluate the sensory function of the infant ’s auditory nervous system and detect hearing impairment in time, which is helpful to guide early systematic intervention.
