1982年以来,广东省乳源县林业和园林部门,进行了乡土植物引种驯化试验,其中木兰科植物中,有5个种生长良好,现已繁殖苗木4万余株,为城市园林绿化工作提供了新的树种。金叶含笑(Michelia foueolata)高大乔木,树皮浅灰或深灰色,芽、幼枝、叶背、花柄密被红褐色短绒毛。叶厚革质,长圆状椭圓形,花期3—5月,果期9—10月。深山含笑(Michelia maudiae)乔木,高20米,树皮浅灰或灰褐色,芽、幼枝、叶背均被白粉,叶深绿革质,长椭圆形,花白色,芳香,直径10—12厘米,聚合果长7—15厘米,种子红色,果期9—10月。
