Stimulation of the baroreceptors of the carotid artery during neck surgery can cause bradycardia and hypotension. These reactions can even cause death. The authors reviewed 76 cases of cervical lymph node dissection. The incidence of vagal nerve reflex was 10.5%. The diagnostic criteria for vagal nerve reflex were: 1. The pulse rate suddenly dropped at least 25 times/min, or fell below 60/min; or The systolic and diastolic pressures suddenly drop by at least 20 mm Hg. 2. Must occur during the operation of the carotid artery; 3. Bradycardia and/or hypotension must respond immediately when the surgery is stopped.
