The network is growing at an alarming rate. Today, no one knows exactly how big it is. Professionals estimate that there are currently 40 billion pages publicly available, but the actual number of pages may be 400-750 times indexed by search engines. Thousands of pages are added every minute on the Internet. By any standard, the web reflects the tremendous impact that information can have on our lives: we buy books and discounts on air tickets, download music and movies, buy almost any item of everyday life, and look up any information you need. And 15 years ago, “amazon” also represented a river in South America. “ebaY ” is a typo. “yahoo ” is the Savage in Gulliver’s Travels. “google ” is a huge number (10 in 100). To date, they have all evolved into “superstars” in the Internet world. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the birth of the Internet, the British “Observer” recently selected 15 sites that have the most impact on the world and people’s lives.
