Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were synthesized and purified. Using a hydrocolloid, SWCNTs are assembled on a tungsten (W) tip that can be used as the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) to obtain atomically resolved images of highly oriented graphite (HOPG) and gold (Au) film surfaces. Field emission microscopy (FEM) was used to study the field emission characteristics of SWCNTs. Atomic resolution field emission spectra were obtained, consistent with the calculated (9, 9) armchair SWCNT structure. The electrical properties of SWCNTs were investigated and negative resistance was observed
