Objective To investigate the changes of amniotic fluid C-peptide (amniotic fluid C-peptide, AFCP) and insulin levels in normal pregnant women and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients and to investigate their relationship with neonatal complications. Methods The levels of amniotic fluid C-peptide and insulin in 60 pregnant women (group Ⅰ) and 60 women with GDM (group Ⅱ) were measured by radioimmunoassay. Results The level of amniotic fluid C peptide was significantly different between the two groups (P <0.01). The level of insulin in group Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of group Ⅰ (P <0.05) at 30-34th week of pregnancy and significantly lower than that of group Ⅰ (P <0.05) . Conclusion Amniotic fluid C peptide value can more directly reflect the pancreatic β-cell secretion, providing clinical data for the prevention of neonatal complications.
