2013年6月初和7月下旬,城步苗族自治县“城南防洪大堤工程项目”施工队先后从巫水河床下挖掘出4挺机枪。其中3挺基本保持原型,长约1.5米,重约28公斤。枪管外管直径约5厘米,外管壁开有通风散热的小眼,钢印上的英文字母清晰可辨。经翻译,意为P-40战机的50式重型机枪。P-40战机为美国制造。战机上的重型机枪为何掩埋在城步巫水河床下呢?带着这一谜团,笔者走访了周围的一些老人,查阅了县志等史料。从调查
