旨在展示新闻摄影记者综合业务实力的“中国新闻摄影记者金眼奖”评选活动,于1993年首次举办后,1996年举办了第二届,1999年又举办了第三届。每届各有六七十位摄影记者参加角逐,每次各评出“金眼奖”优胜奖10名,“金眼奖”提名奖10名(第三届因第21名与第20名得分相同而多评出1名)。 新的时代要求摄影记者不仅会摄影,还要会作文,不仅摄影技巧和文字水平要过硬,更要有较高的政治理论水平和科学文化水平。为了鼓励摄影记者做到“图文双全”,适应现代新闻工作的需要,更好地完成时代赋予的重任,中国新闻摄影学会举办了“金眼奖”
