音乐所初创时的“十间房”中国艺术研究院音乐研究所自1954年成立至今,已经走过六十载春秋。在这里,夯筑起新中国音乐学科的第一方基石,开拓了新中国音乐学科的第一片沃土,培育出新中国第一代音乐学术中坚。这里也是中国音乐学的重镇,由吕骥、杨荫浏、李元庆、缪天瑞、曹安和、李纯一、郭乃安诸先生而下,当今中国音乐学界任何一个有影响力的学术组织,几乎都与音乐研究所有着千丝万缕的联系。用“惠泽八方、荫及后世”来赞扬中国艺术研究院音乐研究所的功绩,名至实归。
