Etiology The cause of hepatitis D is the delta virus (HDV), first detected by Rizzctto in 1977. It is a defective hepadnavirus that has to coexist with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the current study of HDV has reached molecular biology level The virus is a 36 nm spherical particle that is coated with HBsAg. Internal contains HDAg and 1.7kb of RNA
