Objective To investigate the expression and significance of Snail and PDEF in prostate cancer (PCa). Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Snail and PDEF in 38 cases of PCa and 20 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The relationship between them and the clinicopathological factors of prostate cancer was analyzed. Results The positive rates of Snail and PDEF in PCa were 57.8% and 60.5%, respectively, and those in BPH were 20% and 25% respectively. The expression of two proteins in PCa and BPH were significantly different (P <0.05). The increased expression of Snail and PDEF was associated with different differentiation degree, invasion and metastasis, clinical stage and PSAD in PCa (P <0.05). There was a positive correlation between Snail and PDEF expression in PCa tissues. Conclusion Snail, PDEF are related to the occurrence, evolution and metastasis of PCa. Combined detection of Snail, PDEF and PSAD can be used as an important reference for PCa development and prognosis. The high expression of Snail and PDEF may be important biological markers of invasion and metastasis of PCa.
