Susan Sontag’s novel “Volcano Lovers” is a historical novel that is metaphorical between man and nature. The author reflects the beauty, passion, and destruction represented by volcanoes with the arts, human nature and social revolutions and deduces the human world through historical stories. With a modernist sense of urgency, the author looks at the natural environment to the ideological situation from the personal environment to the social transformation in the late eighteenth century and paints a picture of the soul interwoven with appreciation and mourning, passion and melancholy. Instead of the cruelty of nature and nature, sublimate into lofty humanity.
