The authors studied the effects of a weak electric field (1.5-3 V, 30-60 μA) on the bile salt secretion in the livers of rats after the intestinal bile acid circulation was interrupted (experiment A) and recovery (experiment B). In Experiment A, bile acid tracer was infused (~ (14) C-TC. ~ (14) C-CA, or ~ (14) C-DCA) three hours after the application of the electric field. In Experiment B, TD or CA was infused at a rate of 36 μmoles per hour for a period of 150 minutes after the application of the electric field until the end of the experiment. One-time doses (~ (14) C-TC and ~ (14) C-CA) were injected 170 minutes after application of the electric field. Liver taurine pools were pre-labeled in both experiments.
