Three immunologists won the Nobel Prize for Medicine this year on the morning of October 15 as pioneers in the study of their immunity. They are 73-year-old Danish N K Jerne, 57-year-old Argentine C Milstein and 38-year-old West German JSC Kler. They have divided this year’s nearly 200,000 U.S. dollars (about 570,000 deutsche marks) by establishing the basic theory of “the specific structure and regulation of the immune system” and by discovering “the rationale for the production of monoclonal antibodies.” Medical Award.
