Finland is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with 5.3 million population and nearly 1,000 public libraries. Libraries are an important place of leisure and learning in Finnish life where many people spend their spare time in the library. In Finland, university library readers are by no means just university students, because university libraries are open to society in all its aspects. Citizens 15 years of age can apply for a library card, borrow books and use the library’s electronic equipment free of charge by simply providing a Finnish registration number and a specific address.
