“中”“庸”并称 ,主要指无过无不及的日用常行。而《中庸》的主题则是“天”、“性”、“道”、“教”之间的关系 ,即天 (天性 )人 (德性 )合一。这种合一是经过人的自我努力与完善而实现的超越天又合于天、即人为又扬弃人为的向天的回归 ,所以《中庸》具有即日用即超越的特点。日用使超越的实现具有了现实性的品格 ;超越则赋予了日用精神境界追求的内涵。就《中庸》的内在价值而言 ,它要求人们效仿天道之“诚” ,以明善、择善并终身积渐 ,其目的是导人求善。但它在历史上却扮演了使社会成员求同、求稳、不思进取 ,从而维护封建社会稳定的角色。今天 ,如果我们剔除了时代赋予《中庸》的封建色彩 ,那么它所主张的“修己以安人”、“修己以安天下”、“成己”、“成物”等思想 ,对于个体的道德修养、敬业精神的培养以及参政议政思想的孕育均有不可抹杀的积极意义
