At the invitation of the Chinese Patent Office, a delegation of five from the European Patent Office headed by Dr. Blandley, director of the Bureau, visited China from July 23 to July 1993. The European Patent Office is an intergovernmental organization established under the European Patent Convention concluded on 5 October 1973. The existing 17 member countries, headquartered in Munich, Germany, The Hague, the Netherlands has a branch in Europe, two other countries with branch offices, a total staff of 3779 people. The European Patent Office is one of the most powerful patent offices in the world with the most complete patent documentation in the world, an advanced patent information retrieval system and a wealth of patent examination, appeals and legal research
